Meeting Needs While Protecting Dignity
Sometimes a temporary hardship, unexpected expense, family disruption, housing concern, educational need, or other circumstance can create a barrier that is difficult to overcome alone.
Freedom Gives provides Cruising for Causes with a structured way to consider requests for assistance rather than creating an improvised response each time someone needs help.
The goal is not simply to distribute resources. The goal is to help qualified individuals and families address legitimate needs through a process that is compassionate, consistent, documented, and financially responsible.
Assistance Based on Real Community Needs
Freedom Gives may support qualifying needs through approved programs, available resources, partnerships, donated goods, direct assistance, or referrals to other appropriate organizations.
Emergency & Short-Term Needs
Support may be considered when an unexpected circumstance creates an immediate and documented short-term need.
Housing & Stability
Assistance or resource connections may help address qualifying needs that affect safe and stable living conditions.
Family & Household Support
Eligible households may be connected with resources or assistance intended to help address practical family needs.
Education & Opportunity
Certain needs related to education, training, access to opportunity, or advancement may be considered under the appropriate program guidelines.
Community Resource Connections
When direct assistance is not appropriate or available, Cruising for Causes may help identify another program, organization, or resource that may better fit the need.
Special Circumstances
Unusual situations may be reviewed individually when circumstances do not fit neatly within a standard assistance category.
Compassion With Accountability
Requests are considered through an organized review process so assistance can be provided fairly and consistently while protecting available charitable resources.
Apply
The applicant provides information about the need, circumstances, household or individual situation, and requested assistance.
Verify
Required documentation and other information may be reviewed to confirm eligibility and understand the circumstances of the request.
Review
The request is considered under the applicable program criteria, available resources, financial controls, and established approval procedures.
Support
Approved assistance or resources are provided through documented procedures appropriate to the specific program and type of support.
Every Request Deserves a Fair Process
Freedom Gives is designed to prevent charitable assistance from being based on personal relationships, pressure, favoritism, or whoever happens to ask first.
Requests may require eligibility review, supporting documentation, verification, program approval, and financial authorization before assistance is provided.
Available funding and resources may also affect whether an otherwise eligible request can be approved.
Approval for one request does not automatically establish eligibility for future assistance, and each program may have its own requirements, limits, and review standards.
Protecting the Applicant
Information collected through the assistance process should be limited to what is reasonably necessary to evaluate and administer the applicable program.
Assistance Is Based on Program Criteria and Available Resources
Submission of an application does not guarantee approval or create an entitlement to assistance.
Eligibility may vary depending on the type of request, applicable program guidelines, supporting documentation, geographic or program limitations, available funding, donated resources, and other established criteria.
Cruising for Causes may request additional information when necessary to reasonably verify the circumstances described in an application.
In some situations, the most appropriate response may be a referral, resource connection, donated item, service, educational opportunity, or another form of support rather than a direct financial payment.

When Circumstances Need Another Look
An applicant who believes a request was denied because of incorrect information, missing information, unusual circumstances, inconsistent application of program criteria, or improper personal bias may request reconsideration.
A reconsideration request does not guarantee approval. Its purpose is to provide an additional review when there is a legitimate reason to believe the original decision should be examined again.
Additional documentation or information may be requested during the reconsideration process.
